Registration is now open for the 4th edition of the seminar 'Challenges of Brazilian Leadership in the World Soybean Market' which will be held between November 8 and 9, starting at 8 am, at Embrapa Soja, in Londrina (PR).

The full schedule and registration can be done at event web page. The seminar aims to debate, in four panels, the opportunities and challenges to increase the competitiveness of Brazilian soybeans.

Among the topics to be addressed are:

    • The quality of soybeans in Brazil and derived products
    • The impacts of biotechnology on Brazilian and global production
    • The importance of protein quality in soybeans
    • Biofuels obtained from vegetable oils, such as biodiesel

    Official Grading Standard

During the event, there will also be a debate on the review of the official soybean classification standard, which began at the technical seminar held by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa), in Brasília, at the end of September 2022.

“The expectation of soybean producers, buyers, processors and exporters is for conciliation in relation to Ordinance 532. The proposal for conciliation of this Ordinance – after discussions – will go to public consultation in order to replace IN 11 of 2007, which defines the official classification standard for the oilseed,” highlights the researcher from Embrapa Soja, Marcelo Álvares de Oliveira.

“Certainly, improvements in the concepts of defects and discussions regarding Groups and Types should guide the review of this official standard, aligning the Brazilian standard with the North American, Argentine and Chinese ones, these countries being the biggest players in this market”, he assesses.

Brazil is the world's largest producer and exporter of soybeans. According to estimates from the Brazilian Association of Vegetable Oil Industries (Abiove), the current harvest is expected to surpass the mark of 127 million tons produced and set a historic record in the processing of the grain of 49 million tons.

Also noteworthy is the projected revenue from exports of the entire complex (soybean grain, oil and meal) for 2022, which should be approximately US$ 58 billion. According to forecasts, the 2023 harvest will be even larger. Recent data released by the National Supply Company (Conab) indicate a record production of over 150 million tons.

Promoted by Embrapa Soja, the seminar has the support of Abiove, the Association of Cereal Companies of Brazil (Acebra), the National Association of Cereal Exporters (Anec), the Association of Supervisors and Controllers of Brazil (ASCB), as well as the Organization of Brazilian Cooperatives (OCB) and the National Union of the Animal Feed Industry (Sindirações).
