Secretary of Agriculture talks about technology during congress in the South of MG – Uai Agro

    Until this Friday (21), the tourist city of Poços de Caldas will host the 46th Brazilian Coffee Research Congress. At the event, scientific papers dealing with coffee production, marketing and management are being presented.

    The Secretary of State for Agriculture, Thales Fernandes, commented at the opening ceremony on the importance of coffee for the agricultural sector in Minas Gerais. Coffee is the main product on the Minas Gerais agricultural export list, with revenue of US$ 4,4 billion from January to September.

    “The Minas Gerais government is investing R$60 million in Epamig, in research that includes coffee growing. Knowledge that helps generate income, employment and dignity in the countryside,” commented the secretary.

    Volcanic region

    Epamig has Demonstration Units in the volcanic coffee region, which includes the Minas Gerais municipalities of Andradas, Bandeira do Sul, Botelhos, Cabo Verde, Caldas, Campestre and Ibitiúra de Minas. The coffee produced in the 12 municipalities located between the south of Minas Gerais and the northeast of São Paulo has unique characteristics, which, together with the climate and altitude, are responsible for a product of differentiated quality that has conquered the market.

    The 46th Brazilian Coffee Research Congress was promoted by the Procafé Foundation, with the participation of the State Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply of Minas Gerais (Seapa), Embrapa Café, University of Uberaba (Uniube) and Federal University of Lavras (UFLA).
