The GrãosAgroeco research project, coordinated by Embrapa, Emater-GO, Uni-Evangelical and the Association of Agroecological Producers of Anápolis and Region (Aproar), was transported between 2019 and 2021. Leaving a legacy for the community of farmers who were part of it. Aimed at inserting grains, mainly beans, into small properties that grew only vegetables and greens, the initiative is being able to generate results, even after its end, as is the case of rustic producer Roney Aparecido de Oliveira.

On his family's property in the Sousânia region, near the city of Anápolis (GO), Roney and his parents adapted agroecological production techniques to local conditions, since green manure, combined with drip irrigation, allowed them to grow organic beans in this year's winter harvest. In an area of 500 square meters, 135 kilos of the jalo type beans were harvested, at a lower cost because there was no input from outside the property and the labor used was from the family itself.

Bean production in a context like this is attractive. Embrapa researcher Agostinho Didonet and commentator Glays Rodrigues Matos, who participated in the GrãosAgroeco project, assessed that, considering the costs and yield of the crop, the winter cultivation of agroecological beans is an option capable of attracting the attention of small farmers.

“The price of organic jalo at local markets and fairs is quite attractive. With production done in three months, at a lower cost and with autonomy in terms of inputs, the return is quite interesting, in addition to promising to support the family”, stated Agostinho Didonet. In addition to these aspects, he highlighted the importance of monitoring part of the previous year’s production to use as own seed that was properly stored by the producer, which guarantees sowing at the most opportune time.

The agricultural engineer from Emater-GO, Álvaro Gonçalo Rodrigues, was part of the GrãosAgroeco project and is one of the professionals who provide assistance to rural producers in the Anápolis region. Following the example of Roney and his family, other farmers are being monitored by Álvaro. According to him, new reports of good results perpetuating the actions of the GrãosAgroeco project are occurring. Álvaro added that the production of farmers like Roney, who are members of the Association of Agroecological Producers of Anápolis and Region, is sold at the traditional Agroecological Fair (FeAgro), held every Tuesday in Anápolis.
