A list of coffee samples classified for the second stage of the Minas Gerais State Coffee Quality Contest was released by Emater-MG. Now, the new samples must be sent by October 28th, to the company's offices.
Producers who will participate in the next phase must deliver lots with 60,5-kilo bags, type 2 coffee, sieve 16 with a maximum leakage of 5%, and humidity of 10 to 12%. A judging committee made up of specialists in specialty coffees will evaluate the products. Attributes such as fragrance, aroma, flavor, acidity, body, uniformity, absence of defects, sweetness, finish, balance and overall evaluation will be analyzed.
Samples sent
A total of 1.454 samples were entered in the 2022 edition of the Minas Gerais State Coffee Quality Contest. The awards ceremony will take place in December. In addition to the state champion, the top three places in each category will be announced, from the state's four producing regions: Cerrado, Chapada de Minas, Matas de Minas and Sul de Minas. The best coffee produced by a woman will also be awarded.
The competition is promoted by the Government of Minas Gerais, through Emater-MG and the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply of Minas Gerais (Seapa), in partnership with the Federal University of Lavras (Ufla), the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Southern Minas Gerais and the Foundation for Support to Teaching, Research and Extension (Faepe).
