In a document, ICMBio details that the release is for the slaughter of, at the top, 900 alligators by the end of the year. The material also points out that the action can only be carried out with males measuring 1,6 to 2,8 meters from two species: the black caiman and the speckled caiman. The annual slaughter of each species cannot exceed 70% and 30%, respectively.
Close to the Madeira River, the Lago do Cuniã Resex was created by the federal government in 1999. With 74,6 thousand hectares, the space has among its activities, business with the Base Center for the Amazon Riverside Population (Napra), the “production of flour, the management of pirarucu and alligator”.

In the document, ICMBio highlights that the slaughter of alligators will be the responsibility of an entity that has been operating in the area for years, the Cooperative of Fishermen, Aquaculturists, Farmers and Extractivists of the Lago do Cuniã Extractive Reserve (CoopCuniã).
The cooperative will be responsible for environmental regularization and, furthermore, for the operation of the cold storage facility already installed within the extension of the reserve located in the capital of Rondônia — and which currently houses 50 families and a wall of 400 people.
