Soybean producers contest the determination of the Court of Justice of Mato Grosso (TJMT) as to the determination of change of calendar of planting in the state. According to farmers, especially those who aim for late planting to produce their own seeds, the sowing carried out until February 03rd reduces the incidence of Asian rust in crops.
A determination do TJMT took place in September. In the decision, the agency suspended the effects of an ordinance from the Ministry of Agriculture that authorized planting until February 03. With the new understanding, the period allowed for cultivation returns to being from September 16 to December 31.
“This period from September to December is a period when the Asian rust index is very high for us. So, in the case of reaching the 5% that is allowed for us to be able to save this seed, February is much better”, points out the president of Primavera do Leste Rural Union, Marcos Bravin in episode 56 of Agro Patrol.
Bravin comments that on his property he has already applied up to 10 fungicides against Asian rust in areas sown until December.
Research proves the possibility of planting

“Two years ago, the planting date was approved in Mato Grosso. The state, through Governor Mauro Mendes, from Indea itself, gave the floor to the producers, because the technical arguments and scientific research proved that it serves the small producer without any harm in terms of pathology”, highlights the president of Mato Grosso Soybean and Corn Producers Association (Aprosoja-MT), Fernando Cadore.
According to Cadore, the decision of Justice places o producer that had been planned in a delicate situation.
Producer in Primavera do Leste, Cristian Willy Braun remembers that even if planted until February 03, the soybeans are harvested before the sanitary break begins.
"You don't February planting we preserve as fungicide molecules. This does not happen in December. We end up doing 11, 12 applications, exposing the molecules to the fungus and this causes resistance”, emphasizes Braun.
Saved soybean seeds help reduce costs
The Ferrari family produces around 100 tons of soybean seeds in Primavera do Leste each harvest on an area of 50 hectares. Ary José Ferrari says that the seeds produced on the property help reduce costs.
“With the seed here we save a certain amount of diesel oil, which we use on the farm”, says Ary José.
According to Marciano Ferrari, an investment was made in the property to build a cold storage room to store the seeds. “It’s worth it, because you have good, quality seeds, just for your own use.”
