Well, that's the current recipe, but granola wasn't always like this. In more than a century, the list of ingredients for this morning food has changed a lot. It all started around 1830, with the invention of wholemeal flour, a preparation made only from ground cereals, without any additives.

Decades later, the flour was baked, creating a bran that he called “granula”.

Years later, Mr. Kellogg created a mixture of roasted oat, wheat and corn grains to serve to his patients and, coincidentally, named the preparation “granula”. As he was sued, he had to change his name and “granola” was born.

However, the invention was unsuccessful and was forgotten at the time.

But in the 1960s, granola fell into favor with the hippie movement, which began to extol its nutritional qualities. It then gained fame among participants in “alternative societies” and became known throughout the world.

Combining grains and dehydrated fruits, oat flakes, sesame seeds, tapioca, corn flakes, cashew nuts, there is a variety of recipes with lots of flavor and health benefits.

Granola is rich in protein and fiber, giving a feeling of satiety and controlling your appetite.

    Granola and its health benefits

Granola and its health benefitsBut its benefits go far beyond these. I understand why it should be included in your diet:

    – It has nutrients that provide more energy for the body. Offers minerals such as iron, B vitamins, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, copper and selenium. Providing the body with energy and disposition

    – Helps prevent cancer. The B complex vitamins, vitamin E, manganese and omega 3 in its composition help fight damage from free radicals. And fiber helps prevent bowel cancer, as it stimulates regular bowel function, especially if used with liquids such as milk, juices and yogurts.

    – Helps with weight loss: fiber, as we already mentioned, helps to avoid food cravings. But this granola shouldn't have sugar. Low carb, light and gluten-free options are available on the market.

    – Offers several consumption options: The granola is very versatile and can be used in many combinations. Care and attention should be taken not to consume in excess, or with foods rich in sugar or sodium. This would take away all of its benefits from the granola.

So, it doesn't hurt to try adding it to your meal!!
