Rural producers from Vila Almeida, in the Linhares neighborhood of Juiz de Fora, will have their lands regularized. According to the executive, 135 families must formalize their land titles and, from there, will be able to access public policies aimed at the agricultural sector. These producers are responsible for a large part of the horticulture in Juiz de Fora. In June of this year, the region produced 70 tons of leafy vegetables and vegetables per year. However, according to the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Seapa), most producers do not have a Declaration of Eligibility for Pronaf (DAP) – National Program for Strengthening Family Farming. The lack of registration hinders access to benefits aimed at the sector.
“Land regularization in Vila Almeida will allow producers to, in addition to having their productive areas regularized and recognized, access public policies aimed at rural production, such as institutional purchases such as the PJF's 'Good Food' program and the 'National School Feeding Program' (Pnae). The DAP, which are the Pronaf Eligibility Documents, are the family farmer's gateway to public policies that encourage production and income generation,” the secretary assured.
The president of the Vila Almeida Residents Association, Carla Cristina, is married. Her husband has been a farmer for approximately 30 years but is unable to retire because he cannot prove that he is a farmer because he does not have documentation. “Regularization would be essential for him,” she said.
The first steps towards regularization took place at the beginning of this year, with the completion of the topographic, social and physical registration. According to the Municipal Housing and Productive Inclusion Company (Emcasa), 165 social registrations were completed at the beginning of the year. Emcasa mapped 138 lots, 54 of which are intended for agricultural production. According to Emcasa, there are families who have lived in the region for over 30 years, however, the community has not kept up with the changes and the need for regularization, which is why it is important to regularize.
